A shooting yesterday just before 6 p.m. in Caldwell County
left one man in the hospital.
The unidentified male victim was shot in the left
chest at a residence off Jim Poarch Place near Playmore Beach Road in the
southwest part of the county. The victim was airlifted from Grace Hospital in
Morganton to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was conscious when
rescue workers arrived, and is expected to recover.
Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the
circumstances until late in the evening- and were unable to release the names
of those involved last night. A press release is expected this morning. No
charges had been filed as of midnight- but deputies said that was subject to

after complaints alleged shots had been fired. No one was taken into custody at
that time, but two people were taken into custody last night after the
shooting. One of the suspects spoke out about the incident, claiming he acted
in self-defense when the victim assaulted his property with bottles. At least
one weapon and a baseball bat were confiscated by authorities. A source within
the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office called the situation “confusing.” Stay
