A string of assaults has Appalachian State University Police on extra alert according to Chief Gunther Doerr.

Doerr says extra officers are on patrol- but students walking alone at night still need to take extra precautions. Students should try to walk with a buddy, use the Safe Ride system, and stay in well-lit areas. Last week’s assault was similar to 9 other cases this year. In each instance, an unidentified white male approached females from behind and attempted to pull their pants down. Doerr says there is a possibility the assaults are connected- and he urges the public to be cautious. Most of the assaults have happened near the library and Plemmons Student Union. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 828-262-4555.
