Wednesday, 22 August 2007 20:00

A Wilkes native was honored in Rhode Island earlier this month for her dedication and service in North Carolina.

Jory Shepherd, a W. Kerr Scott Lake ranger, received the national U.S. Corps of Engineers Management Recreation Employee of the Year title. Shepherd has worked at the Lake since 1995 and attended Wilkes Community College. Shepherd was promoted from field office assistant to ranger in 2003 and in 2006 became lead shoreline ranger. Along with a variety of volunteer service, outside of work Shepherd is involved with the Master Bee Keeping Program at N.C. State University. The award comes with a $1,000 check.
