Newton motorcycle recovered by Avery deputies PDF Print
Monday, 20 August 2007 07:40
Avery County deputies had a busy night Sunday. An officer spotted two motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed. When he attempted to stop the vehicles, they sped away down N.C. Highway 181.
Deputies had to suspend the chase when the motorcycles crossed into Burke County- but got a break when an off-duty Avery officer in Jonas Ridge found a motorcycle wrecked in the road near the county-line. According to Detective Frank Catalano, a plate check revealed that the motorcycle was stolen from Newton on August 15. While no one was found at the scene- at least someone in Newton will get his or her motorcycle back, Catalano said- even if it’s “a little beat up.” Officers have no suspects- but are actively investigating. The motorcycle was towed to the Avery County Sheriff’s Office.
