Ski Expansion Denied: Where do we go from here? PDF Print
Tuesday, 07 August 2007 20:12
The Seven Devils Board of Adjustment has denied a request for a special use permit to allow expansion at Hawksnest Ski Resort.
Hawknest had intended to relocate its tubing slope and expand its beginner slope where tubing is now. Controversy has arisen over this particular expansion because it deals with property that used to be the Seven Devils Golf Course. Cottom had hoped that by cooperating with the Town’s original plan to lease the property for a golf course, he would be able to expedite his expansion. After the lease idea was nixed by the Council, Cottom was not optimistic that the town would cooperate. Concerns over added traffic to Seven Devils, as well as safety issues have been discussed- and it looks like opposition won out over Lenny Cottom’s request. As to the Seven Devils Golf Course? Town officials say that’s a separate issue that will be discussed in the near future. It might just take a few more meetings.
