New Association President is thinking “positive” PDF Print
Tuesday, 07 August 2007 20:11

Newly elected Avery County Fire Association President Junior Sluder is optimistic contract issues will be worked out in the near future.

In fact, according to Sluder, a new draft is supposed to be completed today.

Once the contract situation is ironed out, Sluder says to expect great things from Avery County fire service.

Sluder was chief of Newland Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years, and when the Association was first formed in 1977, he was chairman for 15 years. Under his leadership, he hopes to stifle the Association’s bad press.

He hopes changes in Fire Commission personnel will improve the situation.

Expect positive things from Avery County firefighters, he says.

Other newly elected officers are Vice President Paul Buchanan, Secretary Gary Redden, and Treasurer David Charles Vance. Jim Brooks will represent the Association on the 911 committee, and taking Tony Hunter’s place on the Fire Commission is Michael Johnson.
