Counterfeit warning in Wilkes PDF Print
Monday, 06 August 2007 20:00

Counterfeit twenties have been discovered in Wilkes- and law enforcement all over the High Country warn both consumers and businessmen to beware.

The counterfeit bills were discovered at Golden Wok in Wilkesboro when an unidentified man asked to exchange five twenties for a one hundred dollar bill. Three of the bills were found to be counterfeit- but only after the suspect had left the business. Law enforcement is looking for a couple in a red Toyota Celica with a faded hood. According to an employee at Golden Wok, the man who swapped the bills was white, about 6’2”, with a light build and short brown hair. A Caucasian woman was waiting for him in the Celica. Anyone with information is encouraged to call law enforcement. According to officials within the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office- it’s easy to recognize a counterfeit bill. Markers can be purchased cheaply that, when marked on a bill, can identify the money’s legitimacy.
