Shooting suspect faces more charges PDF Print

Saturday shooting suspect Randall Whitley has been arrested again- and could be investigated for possible arson.

Whitley was stopped by a Wilkes deputy earlier this week after a report suggested he had been threatening shooting victim Timothy Potts. While the deputy alleged Whitley smelled like alcohol, Whitley refused a sobriety test and said he’d just take the DUI. Deputies at the scene seized a case of beer and open can from the car.

While being locked up at the Wilkes County Detention Center for a DUI charge, Whitley allegedly told a deputy that he had been at the scene of the mobile home fire.

Apparently, he had been looking for the gun he allegedly threw at Potts after the shooting. This confession places Whitley at the fire scene earlier that he had told fire marshal Nick Hamby. While no charges have been filed in the blaze, investigators are taking a second look at the possibility of arson.
