Third Wilkes shooting in a week: Minor gunshot wounds PDF Print
Wednesday, 01 August 2007 20:00

A Tuesday evening incident left yet another Wilkes man in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police say an argument between two neighbors, 56-year-old Richard Roy Anderson and 52-year-old Randy Glen Absher, escalated to gunfire. After arguing with each other in front of Anderson’s Browntown Road residence, Absher is alleged to have pulled out a handgun. While the first round missed, the second round hit Anderson in the right arm. Anderson was taken to Wilkes Regional Medical Center via ambulance and is expected to recover from his injury. Absher was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. A hole in the screen door caused by the missed round had deputies worried a bullet might have inadvertently hit someone in the home. While no one was in the residence, police did find a .22-caliber rifle and two jars of peach liquor. Anderson was charged with possessing a firearm after a felony conviction and possessing non-taxed alcoholic beverages.
