Boone Police Department has identified the body discovered in Kraut Creek this morning.

Police believe the man to be 58-year-old Steven Randall Grubb of Todd. Preliminary findings of the Watauga County Medical Examiner's Office indicate the cause of death was drowning. The autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or foul play.

The investigation is still open- but this evening, a source within the Boone Police Department indicated it is not a criminal investigation.

With the past week's heavy rains, the creek was deeper than usual. There's still no word on how long the body was in the creek- or the circumstances of Grubb's death.

The autopsy indicates alcohol was involved- but it's too early to get a blood alcohol level according to Sgt. Wilson of the Boone Police Department.
