Ashe to stay windmill-free PDF Print
Friday, 27 July 2007 07:28

An application for a commercial wind farm in Ashe County was dismissed by the North Carolina utilities commission yesterday.

Northwest Wind Developers wanted to put up 25 to 28 wind turbines in the community of Creston- a desire that created uproar among those who feared the 300-foot turbines would ruin views and property values.

The commercial wind farm would have been the state’s first.

Northwest Wind Developers failed to say how tall the turbines would be or their exact location, however, and the application was dismissed as incomplete. While Northwest could file another application, Richard Calhoun of Northwest Wind Developers said last week that he could not spend the money to continue the studies the commission requested.
