Hearts abound during February. We see heart-shaped candies, red foil heart boxes full of chocolates, heart-shaped balloons, and the list goes on. Did you know that February is also the American Heart Association’s American Heart Month?

Families who would like help completing the FAFSA are invited to attend FAFSA Day on Saturday, February 20 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Appalachian State University in the John E. Thomas Building, Room 265 (Financial Aid Office).

Boone, NC –With her breathtaking new installation “Strange Gardens” —a multi-layered environment of vivid, translucent color and swirling forms—the jeweler and metalsmith Julia Barellowill transform the walls of the Turchin Center’s Mayer Gallery into a symbolic garden, brightly blooming in the dark chill of winter. It will be the largest, most ambitious works by Barello to date. 

The First Tech Challenge (FTC) Team 8190 Tungsteel of the Watauga High School Robotics Club won the Innovation Award for their robot design and were part of the winning alliance for robot performance at a 13-team robotics tournament at ImaginOn in Charlotte on January 16th. The team’s strong performance in Charlotte qualifies them to compete in the NC State Championships February 20th.

The Digital Watauga Project is pleased to announce that it will sponsor an exhibition of the Bobby Brendell Postcard Collection at the Jones House Community Center during the month of February 2016. This free exhibition will feature more than 60 postcards from Brendell’s collection of over 400 postcards that already have been digitized by Digital Watauga. A public reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, February 5, 2015, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the Jones House main gallery.
