The Oasis Shriners will honor U.S. military veterans on June 4, starting at 2 p.m. with its “Salute to Our Veterans” Spring Ceremonial and Grand Parade beginning in downtown Blowing Rock's Memorial Park on Main Street. Oasis Shriner’s chief executive officer, Potentate Johnny King, has declared this year’s parade a “civic parade” with participation of Lady Shriners and The Watauga High School Marching Bands, along with Appalachian State University Chancellor Sheri Everts.

The Watauga County Arts Council is once again offering a grant and scholarship initiative designed to promote training in the vocal arts.

On Monday May 9th, the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center held their annual Mother’s Day Bake Off event.

Fourth grade teacher Martha Trimble of Blowing Rock School has been chosen as the Watauga County Schools Teacher of the Year for 2016-17.

The 24th annual National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive benefiting the Hunger and Health Coalition Pantry will be this Saturday, May 14.
