In no small way, today’s culture is dominated by screens. From a young age children are exposed a wide range of devices, from tablets to televisions; and while with that territory comes with its own merits, a group of parents and teachers at Cove Creek School are on a mission to ensure students are also exposed to nature as part of their education. The group has come together to form an environmental science club at the school called the EcoRaiders.

Mount Vernon Baptist Church hosts GriefShare, a grief support group on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm.

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Watauga Campus Culinary Arts program will begin offering “Carry Out Cuisine” events this spring to the general public.

Wednesday, January 25, 2017, marks the annual Point-in-Time Count. The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, coordinated by the Northwest Continuum of Care, is the annual documentation of the extent of homelessness in our region, which includes Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey Counties.
