BOONE—Two prominent North Carolina civic leaders and political activists will speak at Appalachian State University on “The State of the State of North Carolina in 2016.”

Starting Monday, March 14th, open enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year begins at Two Rivers Community School. Two Rivers is a public-charter, K-8, tuition-free school open to all students. In order to attend Two Rivers Community School a family must fill out an application and enter a lottery system for placement. The lottery is only utilized if there are more applicants than seats per class. Open enrollment will last until April 22nd with the school’s Board of Directors drawing names from the lottery on April 25th.

On Saturday, April 2, the Toe River Arts Council opens its 10th anniversary exhibition of metal work from blacksmiths participating in downtown Spruce Pine’s Fire on the Mountain Festival.
