The 63rd Carolina’s Thanksgiving Parade was held In Charlotte on Thursday. It was the 25th year in a row that R. Scott Turnmyre , Director of the Ashe County High School Husky Vanguard Marching Band, has presented a band for this parade. This year the band won first place in division A. In 2007, the ACHS band was the honor band after winning the overall marching band competition in 2006. Out of 4 marching band scholarships sponsored by the Carolina’s Carrousel, Inc., Ashe county seniors captured 3. The Robert L. Maddox Scholarship for an outstanding musician went to Nicholas George Love of Ashe County. Nicholas is the captain of the drum line. Two other scholarships were presented to Lauren Alexandra Turnmyre, who plays trombone and Amanda Elizabeth Goodman who plays the trumpet. They have been accepted to Mars Hill, Lenoir Rhyne, and Campbell University, respectively.
There were close to 140 entries for this year’s parade and over 100,000 spectators attended. The Ashe County High School Band Boosters carried a crowd favorite, a huge American Flag.

The Robert L. Maddox Scholarship for an outstanding musician went to Nicholas George Love of Ashe County. Other musician scholarship winners were Bryan DuBose Daniels, Myers Park High; Lauren Alexandra Turnmyre and Amanda Elizabeth Goodman, each of Ashe County High.
And in Thursday's parade, the winning bands were East Burke High (overall and Class AAA); Providence High (Class AA); and Ashe County High (Class A).
