Join Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA) for the 2014 High Country Farm Tour June 28th and 29th, from 2-6 PM. The High Country Farm Tour, now in its 8th year of success, is an event hosted by Blue Ridge Women In Agriculture (BRWIA) aimed at facilitating relationships between consumers and producers, and creating an educated consumer base that supports and advocates for locally-owned and operated farms.
This year’s tour features 20 unique farms scattered throughout Ashe and Watauga Counties. Participating farm families will hold ‘open house’ and provide tours from 2-6 PM on Saturday and Sunday. This event offers participants a chance to learn firsthand from the people producing food right here in our community.
There are a variety of learning experiences, activities, and products at the farms that offer fun for the whole family, such as Against the Grain’s biodynamics and seed-saving workshops, Apple Hill Farm’s animal-loving atmosphere, and Landmark Farms Paca Palace Fiber Shop. In addition to the farms, we have some other exciting extras including Lil’ Locavore Activity Books for kids, a raffle for 12 different baskets with assorted gifts from local businesses, and a farm tour photo contest.
More information about the tour and participating farms is available at A $25 weekend pass for an entire carload of visitors, all weekend can be purchased online, at the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, or at the Ashe and Watauga County farmer’s markets. Get yours today!
