CCC&TI to Offer Extreme Super Summer Camp for Kids PDF Print

This summer, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Continuing Education Division will once again offer “Extreme Super Summer Camp” for kids ages 5 and up.

The program will offer week-long courses and activities from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

Each session covers two different topics with students separated into different age groups to allow each program to be customized with appropriate activities.

 

Extreme Super Summer Camp sessions begin on June 23 and run through the week of Aug. 11. Early drop-off times will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Late pick-up times will be from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 

Cost per session is $75 and includes early drop-off, late pick-up, two programs and a snack between programs.

Following is the program schedule for each week:

June 23-June 27

Musical Madness

Mountain Music - Mountain country has its own unique music style. Students will explore what mountain music is and how it is created. This includes playing the spoons, bones and paper bag.

 

The Art of Music 101 - Love Music? Always wanted to know more about the different types of music? Students will get to explore all the different ways that music influences life. From learning about how a song is created to how it ends up on your iPod, students will get the full view of how music is made.

 

July 7-July 11

Steps Ahead Fitness

Basketball Camp - Love Basketball? Want to learn more? Come and have fun this summer learning basketball fundamentals such as ball handling skills, passing, dribbling, shooting and team play. Bring your friends and make it a group effort. Students need to bring gym clothes, tennis shoes and a water bottle with their name on it.

 

Kickin’ Martial Arts - This course will introduce students to the basic movements within marital arts. Several styles and techniques will be covered to help students get an idea of the many different disciplines that are taught. Students will need to dress in casual gym clothes and have socks available. Students will need to bring a water bottle with their name on it.

 

July 14-July 18

Science Adventures

Mad Scientist! - Step into a lab full of fun and discover your inner mad scientist! Whether you are a chemist, a physicist or an engineer, during Science Adventures Camp students will have a wild and wacky time exploring different types of science.

 

Dinosaur Discovery - It’s prehistoric pandemonium! Learn all about dinosaurs—their history, where they lived, what they ate and why they aren’t around anymore. From T.Rex to raptors to triceratops, come have some prehistoric fun learning about dinos! Plus, make a fossil cast to take home!

 

Spanish Fiesta: Beginners

Language 101 - Sing, dance and play your way to speaking Spanish! Students will learn basic concepts in Spanish, such as greetings, numbers 1-20, colors, days of the week, animals and more, through movement, singing, technology, coloring, painting, and interactive activities and games.

 

Cultural Creations - Students will explore Hispanic culture through learning the Macarena, the Salsa, fun activities, cultural crafts, and making piñatas. From this, students will also put together a performance that incorporates piñatas, singing, dancing and more.

 

July 21-July 25

Life on the Wild Side

Shelter! - Learn how to build a primitive shelter from natural materials. Participants will learn how to create an emergency shelter constructed without tools and using only naturally available materials. Not only can this be a life-saving skill but “Leaf Forts” are LOTS of FUN!

 

Fire! - Learn how to make a campfire without matches. Participants will learn how to build a campfire safely and quickly using naturally available materials and minimal tools (some tools will be hand-made by participants). Participants will create a bow drill fire by friction kit and use this to start our campfire.

 

More Musical Madness

Mountain Music: Advanced - Love to play an instrument? Want to learn more about the history of music? Come join us for the next step in our Mountain Music offerings. Students will get more exposure to the instruments that they love as well as be introduced to new and exciting ways to create music.

 

Music in Motion - Music in your history? Local musicians in your family? Western North Carolina is full of rich culture and music. Students will be introduced to the surrounding history through stories, documentaries and classroom experiences.

 

July 28-August 1

Robotics 101

Building Robots - Students will be involved in interactive, hands-on activities that include creating, designing and constructing eco jewelry, robots and cars. Through this process, members will learn how to create and maintain an engineering notebook while learning about the engineering design process

.

Robots Everywhere! - Robots surround us everywhere. Students will discover how they interact with robots on a daily basis and how they can work to make their own creations.

 

Spanish Fiesta: Intermediate

Language: The Next Step - Students will build upon their experiences from the beginning class by taking everything to the next step. They will work on numbers through 100, questions and answers in Spanish, months of the year, weather, seasons and short stories. All of the topics will be delivered through movement, singing, technology, coloring, painting and interactive activities and games.

 

Cultural Creations: Holidays - Students will take their knowledge of the Hispanic culture further through learning about Three Kings Day (making paper shoes), Easter cascarones, Cinco de Mayo and the Day of the Dead. The class will be pulling all of their experiences together for a performance at the end of the week.

 

August 4-August 8

Art Expo

Pottery - Like making things with your hands? Come experience the world of pottery. Students will have the chance to learn with hands-on experience the art of creating many different types of pottery. All of the pieces that are created within the classroom will be displayed at a gallery opening at the college on the last day. Students will be able to take their projects home at the end of the week.

 

Art: A Little Bit of Everything - Want to create something? Like to use your imagination? Come and allow your imagination to soar. This course will introduce students to many different types of art and allow many great hands-on projects. Students will be able to showcase their projects in an open gallery at the college on the last day of class.

 

August 11-August 15

You’ve Got Talent

Costumes and Props - Can’t get enough acting? Students will be introduced to life in the theater, from costume design to final curtain call. Have fun while you build the skills and confidence you will need to succeed in the theater, school and life!

 

Characters and Scripts - Ever wondered how scripts are developed for plays, movies or TV shows? How each character is developed? What goes into playing a role in a program? Come take part in the preparation of a play to be performed the last day of class.

 

Speed Camp

Aerodynamics - Like airplanes? Want to build a helicopter? Come learn how to build and fly different types of model airplanes. Students will learn different ways to achieve top flight speed and time. Each student will have a model to take home with them.

 

Pinewood Derby - Want to race a car? Want to build that car with your own hands? This course is designed to allow students to build their own pinewood derby car and to prepare for a race on the final day. Each student will take their car home with them.

 

Kids in the Kitchen

Baking Magic - 6/23-6/27

Learn the science behind the magic of baking and pastries. Students will prepare and enjoy such items as cupcakes, puff-pastry desserts, tarts and finish the week off with their own “specialty” cake.

Monday-Friday • 1 p.m. -4 p.m.

 

Chocolates and Candies - 7/21-7/25

Sweets! Sweets! Sweets! Students will learn how chocolates, fruits and assorted candies come together to create awesome treats.

Monday-Friday • 1 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

 

Pizza! Pizza! - 8/4-8/8

Learn to make a different pizza every day including calzones, gourmet and dessert pizzas. Topping the week off will be a dough-tossing contest.

Monday-Friday • 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
