A Lenoir woman faces assault charges after a Sunday incident in Avery County.
Deputies were initially responding a domestic violence call in the Elk River community. 26-year-old Ashley Dawn Sudderth is alleged to have assaulted Deputy Shawn Turbyfill on the scene. According to Sheriff Kevin Frye, Sudderth was “out of control,” and managed to kick out the back passenger window of a patrol car when officers tried to take her into custody. At the jail itself, she is alleged to have assaulted Jailer Tracy Buchanan. Sudderth was charged with two counts of assault on a government official and one count of resist, obstruct and delay and damage to property.
