Watauga County School Board member John Welch will address the September luncheon of the Democratic Women’s Club on the future of the local school system and the challenges presented by the new state and county budgets, both under the control of new Republican majorities.

The Democratic Women’s Club meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month (with some exceptions), with the September luncheon scheduled for September 28 at 11:30 a.m. at Paolucci’s Italian Bar & Grill (783 W. King St., Boone).
John Welch is a Watauga County native. He attended Blowing Rock Elementary and Watauga High schools before entering Wingate University in 1997. He currently works for the ASU athletics department, and his wife Christy is the school counselor at Mabel Elementary. John serves on the Legislative Committee of the North Carolina School Boards Assoc., District 7, and on the board of directors for the Wingate University Sport Management Department and the Wingate University Bulldog Club. He does summer work as a counselor for the Broyhill Leadership conferences and is an active volunteer parent at Mabel School, where his daughter attends first grade.
The monthly Democratic Women luncheons are open to everyone, and both men and women are urged to attend. The dutch-treat luncheon begins at 11:30, with the guest speaker scheduled for High Noon.
