The Todd Community Preservation Organization (TCPO) will hold a silent auction and community Art and Yard sale on Saturday, May 28, 2011, to raise funds for the community Summer Music Series. Free summer music concerts have become a fixture in Todd since starting in 2001. The series is a showcase for local and regional talent that both celebrates and helps preserve a rich mountain music heritage. Last year’s concerts featured three Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame inductees and a Grammy nominee.

The concerts are made financially possible through the generous support of community sponsors, “pickle jar” donations collected at concerts, ticket sales at the annual Doc Watson concert each August and are often supplemented by substantial private grants. However, poor weather at last year’s Doc Watson concert and a lack of private grant funding available has left a large shortfall in the funds available for the 2011 concert series.

“Attracting the top-notch talent our supporters have come to expect and keeping our music events free is always demanding, and circumstances this year require us to be especially creative in finding ways to keep the music alive,” said TCPO’s President, Jim Lewis.

In an effort to raise money to continue the music, the TCPO will host a silent auction of Art and Antiques along with a community Art and Yard sale on Saturday, May 28 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at Cook Park in downtown Todd across from the Todd General Store.  The TCPO will have food available for purchase during the day.

This will be a great opportunity for Art Vendors to showcase and sell their art.  Yard Sale Vendors can find a home for some unwanted items found during spring cleaning.  Vendor spots are available for $10.  Please call the TCPO office to reserve your space.

Additionally, the TCPO is currently seeking donations of art, antiques, and collectibles for the silent auction as well as items for the yard sale.  They are also seeking donations of gift certificates for goods or services to auction off. If you are interested in making a donation please call the TCPO office at (336) 877-5401 or (336) 877-2565 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Donated items for the auction can be delivered to the TCPO office located in the Todd Mercantile, 3899 Todd Railroad Grade Road during regular business hours, or you can call the number above for a pick-up.

Local musician Dwight "Sparkie" Franklin will perform during the event from 12pm - 2pm.

TCPO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible.  All proceeds from the event will go to the TCPO’s Summer Music Series.
