Blue Ridge Electric Changes Things Up for Celebration of Earth Day 2011 PDF Print

Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation is continuing its tradition of donating an item with an environmental theme to local elementary and middle school media centers, including Watauga County schools.  However, this year they are changing things up a bit. Instead of donating a traditional book as in years past, Blue Ridge Electric will donate a DVD collection by Edward Norton, Strange Days on Planet Earth. This three-volume DVD set uses state of the art graphics, cutting-edge research and globe-spanning investigations to understand how the environment is changing and why.  Produced by National Geographic, the DVD series explores many aspects of the earth and environmental issues and should be a popular addition to the elementary and middle schools in Blue Ridge Electric’s service areas of Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell and Watauga counties.
The environment has always been important to Blue Ridge Electric. From helping students learn about their environment, to educating members on energy conservation, to lobbying for practical renewable energy standards, Blue Ridge Electric has always strived to be good stewards of the environment. Participating in Earth Day celebrations with local schools helps demonstrate this commitment.
