Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation (ARHF) is joining forces with Jersey Mike's Subs restaurants throughout the Boone area in a March "Month of Giving" fundraising campaign to provide funding for the Cancer Resource Alliance (CRA). The CRA, the support arm of the Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center, provides support programs for patients, caregivers and survivors in the High Country.  The campaign will culminate in a nationwide event, Jersey Mike's "Make A Difference Day" on March 28.
During the month of March, customers can make a donation to Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation in support of the Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center at Jersey Mike's in Boone. Customers making a $5 donation to ARHF will receive six specially branded Jersey Mike's Silly Bandz and a coupon for a free chip and a drink, while supplies last.
One hundred percent (100%) of Silly Bandz sales will be contributed to Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation.  In addition, On Sunday, March 27th, from 5:00 p.m. to closing, Jersey Mike's will contribute 15% of their proceeds to ARHF.
"Make A Difference Day" will take place at Jersey Mike's restaurants nationwide to benefit 72 different charities in celebration of the Northeast-style sub franchise's 55th Anniversary. On March 28 from 2:00 p.m. to closing, Boone residents are invited to make a minimum contribution of a dollar to the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation in exchange for a buy one regular sub, get one free deal...although the hope is that customers will respond by giving what they would have paid for the sub.
The Cancer Resource Alliance was established by volunteers, cancer survivors and healthcare professionals to help cancer patients and their families find support during and after diagnosis and treatment of cancer.  According to Megan Lynch Ellis, Special Events Coordinator for ARHF "We are extremely grateful to Jersey Mike's for choosing Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation to be the beneficiary of their "Make A Difference Day" The Cancer Resource Alliance is funded entirely through, grants, donations and fundraising.  This campaign will go a long way toward providing support services for residents of the High Country who are affected by cancer."
Long before "cause-related marketing" became popular; reaching out to the community was a key component of Jersey Mike's mission.  All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well.
"Early on I learned from my mentors, local businesspeople, the importance of giving back to the community," said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO.  "That is the model I chose for Jersey Mike's and we have been doing it since the beginning.  The philosophy of giving back is important to us and that's why we chose to celebrate the milestone marking our 55th year with our first ever 'Make a Difference Day', a national effort to ensure deserving charities get the funding they need."
