The first annual Mountain Madness 3v3 Soccer Tournament was held at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex on Saturday July 17. Hosted by High Country Soccer Association, the event saw 50 teams from around the state and as far away as South Carolina come to compete for an opportunity to play in the 3v3 State Cup to be held later in the month.
The tournament brought an estimated 600 people to Boone with a number of them staying overnight at local hotels. We received a number of very positive comments about the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex and the Boone area. Area teams fared well at the tournament with at least four teams taking home medals.
We want to say a special thank you to those who helped make this tournament possible - Subway of Boone, Harris Teeter, and Pepsi Bottling Ventures. We also want to thank the volunteers who spent so much time at TMSC facilitating our guests - Katherine Golini, Danny Bingham and his daughters, and Page Sauder. A special thank you goes to Charles Serafim for his leadership as tournament director and to all the HCSA players and parents who volunteered their time for field setup, team coaching, and post-event clean up.
