|Search Underway for Superintendent|
Watauga County Schools recently began their campaign to find the next Superintendent for Watauga County. The job is currently posted on the school system website, through the N.C. School Boards Association and the N.C. Association of School Administrators as well as in newspapers across the state.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Jan. 17 to submit an application for the position. According to the job description, candidates for the position must demonstrate success in 10 categories, visionary education leadership; curriculum and instruction; goal-setting and monitoring achievement; fostering community and/or intergovernmental partnerships; administration and organization of long-term and short-term strategic planning, budgeting, personnel and facility management; strong communication and effective team-building skills; grant-writing and procuring additional funding; visibility and involvement in community activities; leadership in maintaining safe and orderly school environments; and planning and funding of school facilities.
A doctorate degree or progress toward such is preferred, as well as school-level and central office experience. The job is opening after Assistant Superintendent David Fonseca served as interim superintendent following the departure of Superintendent David Kafitz in March 2013. After the application period closes, the Board of Education will select candidates for interviews from applications, then narrow their selection to 2 or 3 candidates for a second interview. Upon being selected, the new Superintendent will begin the job in July of 2014.
