Sex Offender Sentenced to Nearly 20 Years

A Caldwell County registered sex offender was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Richard Voorhees to serve 235 months in a federal prison on charges of online enticement of a minor, according to U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose, of the Western District of North Carolina.

Robert (Bob) E. Triplette

Robert (Bob) E. Triplette of Linville, NC and Ft. Myers, FL died peacefully February 7 at Joanne's House At Hope Hospice, Bonita Springs, FL after a long battle with cancer.  Bob was born December 1, 1936.


 

His memory is cherished by members of his family - spouse, Betty, children: Mrs. Johnny Capps (Gweenda) Rockingham, NC; Mrs. Jimmy Flanagan (Phyllis) Raleigh, NC and Ryan Triplette (Cheryl) Hudson, NC; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Bob enjoyed reading and his computer.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman. 

Sincere thanks to Dr. Sobol, Selby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center, Boone, NC and Dr. Rubin, Florida Cancer Specialist, Bonita Springs, FL.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Pkwy, Bonita Springs, FL  34135. 

A private service for the family will be at a later date.

AppalCART fixed routes are running delayed. Van rural routes will not be operating today. 

  • Avery High School Basketball is postponed until Thursday
  • Avery Senior Center has no meals today, and is closed to the public
  • Farm Bureau Insurance in Newland and Banner Elk are closed today
  • First Baptist Church in Boone - ALL afternoon and evening activities for today have been cancelled.
  • Meat Camp Baptist Church ALL services for tonight have been cancelled
  • Profitt's Grove Baptist Church, ALL evening services cancelled.
  • St. Elizabeth Catholic Church says that, due to their hill, the 12:15 mass will be held at CCM. The Second Wednesday lunch has been canceled. The 6:30 mass has been canceled
  • Tanger Outlet will open at 12 pm today.
  • Watauga County District Criminal Court has been canceled on Wednesday February 10, 2016. All parties need to be in contact with their attorneys.
  • Watauga County Project on Aging will not have congregate meals, home delivered meals, or transportation.
  • Willow Valley Baptist Church in Vilas will have NO services tonight and will only have an 11 am service on Sunday, Feb. 14th
